Gastronomic guide

Hoboken Restaurants

There are so many wonderful restaurants in Hoboken and note that many of them are BYOB. Here are some of my favorites:

Amanda’s

American Cuisine

One of the more formal restaurants in Hoboken, this beautiful restaurant is great for a romantic dinner or for hosting out of town guests. There is a great bar in the front as well for a before or after dinner drink. The space is quite large, so they can accommodate large groups and parties. Don’t miss their early bird price fixed menu and discounted wine!

Augustino’s

Italian Cuisine

The best Italian restaurant in Hoboken! However – it is really hard to get a reservation here as it is very small with few tables and so many standing reservations for regulars. Everything they serve here is amazing. I love the tasting menu created by the witty waitresses.

1104 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 420-0104

Blue Eyes

Modern Italian

Without a doubt, best skyline views in Hoboken, Blue Eyes sits along the Hudson River and on Hoboken’s famous waterfront promenade.  Beautiful Sinatra Park soccer field is also adjacent to the restaurant.  We have watched many a soccer game from here.

The food is very fresh.  Authentic pizza and a variety of pastas appetizers – there is something here for everyone.  Great for large groups and families. They serve wine and beer as well.  One of our favorite places to go with the kids.

Casual Thai

Thai Cuisine

Cute BYOB Thai restaurant in uptown Hoboken. Their curry dishes and Pad Thai are wonderful!

1006 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 656-6108

City Bistro

American Bar & Restaurant

Great restaurant for burgers, salads and more upscale entrees as well. A perfect place to meet for a drink, brunch, lunch or dinner. Don’t miss their great rooftop bar in the summer.

56 14th Street Telephone (201) 963-8200

Court Street

American Restaurant & Bar

Small intimate restaurant and bar that serves delicious American food in addition to basic burgers, etc. This also a great spot for brunch or getting a drink/late night bite. They host wine tasting events and lobster nights as well.

The Dining Room at Anthony David’s

Northern Italian Restaurant

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Hoboken. Quaint dining area that serves delicious breakfast, lunch & dinner. Outdoor seating is great in season. Also a great spot to stop and pick up coffee and prepared sandwiches. BYOB.

953 Bloomfield Street Telephone – (201) 222-8359

Dino & Harry’s

(Previously Frankie & Johnnies)

Steak House

The best steak restaurant in Hoboken. Spacious restaurant that always draws a good crowd. The piano player is wonderful too!

The Grand Vin

Contemporary Italian & American cuisine

Acoustic music every night makes this place a great place to relax and unwind.  Whoever said you cannot be everything to everyone was not thinking of Grand Vin.  This restaurant is great for dates, gatherings with friends or coming with your entire family – extremely kid friendly. Charming restaurant & wine bar with contemporary Italian & American cuisine.

Featuring an array of carefully selected wines, craft beers, cocktails and delicious dishes made from local ingredients.

500 Grand Street – (201) 656-0012

Karma Kafe

Indian Restaurant

Very chic Indian restaurant with a liquor license in downtown Hoboken. Many fresh, healthy options are offered here as well. Also famous for their lunch buffet.

Description – Indian bistro offering a daily lunch buffet. Subdued-Indian décor. Small bar area. Outdoor dining available.

505 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 610-0900

La Isla Restaurant

Cuban Cuisine

The downtown location is a great place to eat a quick meal or take food or coffee to go! The food is authentic but the restaurant is tiny. Their brunch is great as well. BYOB

The uptown location has the same great food, but is larger, more formal and has a full bar.

Madison Bar & Grill

Restaurant & Bar

Great American restaurant that serves eclectic cuisine in addition to bar basics. The bar becomes quite a scene on the weekends. Don’t miss their bar specials and prix fixe brunch.

1316 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 386-0300

Margherita’s Pizza & Cafe

Italian Restaurant

Wonderful no frills Italian restaurant in Hoboken which now has a full bar. I love their basics – chicken parmesan, Penne alla Vodka. Their chicken carol and spedina are a must as well. Their pizza is homemade.

740 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 222-2400

Moran’s

Pub Fare

Classic dishes using high quality and fresh ingredients.  Moran’s is directly across the street from Church Square Park.  This is great place for meeting friends for some drinks and a burger or one of my favorites, the maple chicken sandwich.  The nachos and caesar salad or among my favorites as well.

501 Garden Street – 201-795-2025

Onieal’s

Restaurant & Bar

Great place to go for a drink or the best burger in town! Many other food options are served as well. Outdoor seating with views of Church Square Park completes this great spot.

343 Park Avenue Telephone – (201) 653-1492

Panello

Italian

Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and enjoy handcrafted pizza, fresh salads or share some small plates.  The menu is the perfect size to try something different each time you come.

This place is great place to go with large groups.  When the weather is warm larger groups will be sat at oversized picnic tables.  When it is colder the inside of the restaurant is extremely charming, centered around a beautiful wood burning oven.

Don’t forget to bring a bottle of your wine or beer.

720 Monroe Street (in the Monroe Center) C105 – 201 683-4734

Robongi

Japanese/Sushi restaurant

This is one of the best sushi restaurants in Hoboken. The wait staff (especially the host) are so accommodating. We often take both of our children here and they can get us in and out without ever making us feel rushed. Their special rolls/more unique rolls are the ones to order. My favorite is the Sakura Roll. BYOB.

520 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 222-8388

Satay Malaysian Cuisine

Malaysian Cuisine, Chinese Cuisine

Great Malaysian food at this small BYOB in downtown Hoboken. I love their Chicken Curry Noodle Soup.

99 Washington Street Telephone – (201) 386-8688

Sri Thai

Thai cuisine

One of the highest Zagat rated restaurants for food in Hoboken! Wonderful Thai cuisine – I have to say, I always order in from here – but they have recently renovated the interior. I love the chicken curry dishes!

234 Bloomfield Street Telephone – (201) 798-4822

Sushi Lounge

Japanese cuisine

I love the Sushi at this trendy spot. Weekends get very crowded but it is worth the wait.

200 Hudson Street Telephone – (201) 386-1117

Trattoria Saporito

Italian Restaurant

This is a wonderful Italian BYOB restaurant in Hoboken. When people come to Hoboken asking for Italian food, I take them here.

Turning Point

American Restaurant

This is one of my favorite places for breakfast in Hoboken – unfortunately, the place gets packed on Saturday and Sunday – so I try to go on an off day. Great, hearty breakfast and lunch options with healthy choices available. The view of NYC doesn’t get much better than this!
